So, you’ve chosen your Reg Barber handle. Your next step is to choose a tamper base which will fit your espresso machine. Below are a few of our suggestions to help you choose the right sized base, taking into acount the manufacturer’s recommendations for your machine. Please be aware that these are just suggestions — the only way to ensure 100% accuracy is to measure your portafilter basket, or send it in to us so that we can measure it precisely.

There’s much debate as to whether a flat base or curved base is better. We prefer the science behind the flat bases and here’s why: Flat bases create an even dispersion of water throughout the coffee grinds. We would recommend that, unless your basket walls (not your portafilter walls) are tapered substantially inwards, a flat base will give you best results.
