Epic proportions

Epic Proportions

The much awaited Epic Espresso opened quietly with no publicity, but made an early impact on the Perth coffee scene with a tidal-wave of excitement.

Epic Espresso is the creation of Corey Diamond — ex Core Espresso, who has certainly developed a name for himself throughout Australia for quality coffee and is well publicised on Australia’s most renowned coffee website and forum — CoffeeGeek.com

Why is Epic Espresso so brilliant I hear you ask — well for starters, you won’t see better equipment anywhere — and I don’t mean just Australia. Two three group Synesso Espresso machines and four Mazzer grinders sitting in between them would have any barista salivating with excitement. Even behind the scenes, there is a high-tech water purification system that lets him control and monitor all water coming into the store.

On the other-hand, having such high-tech and sexy equipment means nothing if you don’t have a professional team to operate them. Corey has some of the best baristas Perth has to offer, and include Megan Aguero, the 2006 WA Latte Art Champion and Vanessa Moore, the bronze medallist in the 2006 WA Barista Championships. He didn’t just acquire them recently either, most of his staff have been with him from the beginning, when he was building Core Espresso from the ground up.

So he has the equipment, he has the people — but how good is the coffee you say. I haven’t seen a bad review anywhere and of the five or six coffees I have had, each was like liquid gold to my tongue — perfect in presentation and precise to his tasting notes every time. Every single milk-based coffee comes with a rosetta that could compete in any latte art competition around the world.

On two of my visits, I even got talking to coffee enthusiasts who had travelled from the city and from Butler (past Joondalup) to sample the coffee everyone’s been talking about.

Well done Corey — I think you’ve nailed it!
